GIF starts on 12 January 2022

Carefully balan­ced on the edge of a hole in time*, is a work of artist Lawrence Winer, but also the per­fect descrip­ti­on of the cur­rent times. Needless to say that the orga­ni­sa­ti­on of a fes­ti­val is, espe­ci­al­ly now, any­thing but a pie­ce of cake. Nevertheless the part­ners of (Voo?uit, CAMPO, NTG, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, KOPERGIETERY and S.M.A.K.) feel that it is their res­pon­si­bi­li­ty, to pro­po­se a fes­ti­val that is generous towards the audien­ce, in soli­da­ri­ty with artists and in a covid safe manner.

We belie­ve the arts play an essen­ti­al role in soci­e­ty, espe­ci­al­ly when soci­al dis­tan­ce has beco­me a neces­si­ty. The arts bring us clo­ser and cre­a­te col­lec­ti­ve expe­rien­ces which is the fun­da­ment of com­mu­ni­ty buil­ding. Although the pro­gram had to be adap­ted, GIF remains an invita­ti­on to pla­ce ima­gi­na­ti­on at the fore­front of soci­al dis­cour­se. A day wit­hout artis­tic rap­tu­re is a lost day, Now, more than ever.

You are invi­ted to attend sea­ted per­for­man­ces in seve­r­al loca­ti­ons in the city as well as pro­jects in the public spa­ce. All the­se events take into account the cur­rent covid regu­la­ti­ons and we will make sure that eve­ry­o­ne atten­ding will feel as safe as possible.

MEIN GENT post­po­ned to 2023

les bal­lets C de la B has deci­ded, together with Kunstencentrum Voo?uit, to move the January 2022 per­for­man­ce series of Mein Gent to a per­for­man­ce series in the sum­mer of 2023. In the cur­rent cir­cum­stan­ces with a limita­ti­on of the audi­to­ri­um capa­ci­ty, it was no lon­ger pos­si­ble to per­form the show. We are now wrap­ping up the play to return to you in full in 2023 with this the­a­tri­cal, musi­cal ode to Ghent.

A look behind the sce­nes during the rehear­sal pro­cess of ​‘Mein Gent’.

In ​‘Mein Gent’, Frank Van Laecke and Alain Platel bring a sharp and fun­ny, but abo­ve all heart­war­ming ode to the peo­p­le of Ghent. Pascale Platel, Ineke Nijssen and Gorges Ocloo are joi­ned on sta­ge by a hund­red citi­zens of Gent and — sup­por­ted by sounds­ca­pes of com­po­ser Steven Prengels — sing the prai­ses of yes­ter­day, today and tomorrow.
